Software Resources
These are the places I go when looking for free software. There are lots of other places I
could have listed, but these are my favorites.
-
Freeware Home
-
Extensive collection of free software sorted into categories. Some software is rated by users. Also has a sister-site for kids.
-
KidsDomain
-
Site focusing on kids and kid software. Includes review of commercial software and links to free software organized into categores.
-
Nonags
-
Another good collection, with each piece rated with a number of "ducks" (6 ducks is the best).
-
The Open CD
- A project to collect all the best Open Source / Free / GPL software onto a single CD. Some of the software available here is just awesome, though other stuff is still in beta stage of development.
-
SchoolForge
-
Open Source educational software. See also the links at k12ltsp.
SourceForge
SourceForge is a very unique site. Here, programmers all over the world collaborate on building their own software programs. The site hosts literally thousands of different projects in various stages of development. Some projects are stable and in widespread use, while some are just dreams with a name. You can search here for a project that might fit your needs. Each project includes a stability ranking, so you should have a good idea if you will be getting beta software or stable stuff.
